President Obama is set to speak to the American public about the conflict in Syria today at 1:15 p.m. ET, the White House said today.
“The President will deliver a statement on Syria at 1:15 p.m. today in the Rose Garden today,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tweeted.
Obama previously announced that the U.S. was considering “limited, narrow” military action against Syria in reaction to the country’s alleged use of chemical weapons on civilians in a Damascus suburb on Aug. 21. Hours After Obama’s announcement, a United Nations team of chemical weapons inspectors left the country, raising the prospect of a possible attack that could come as early as Saturday.
Republican senators are scheduled to convene with the president today as well, GOP aides told ABC News. The briefing, originally slated for 1 p.m., was pushed back to 1:45 p.m. in light of the President’s statement.
